Superior Photocatalytic Activity of BaO@Ag3PO4 Nanocomposite for Dual Function Degradation of Methylene Blue and Hydrogen Production under Visible Light Irradiation

The current work focuses on the photo degradation of organic pollutants, particularly methylene blue (MB) dye, and production hydrogen as green energy using a composite silver phosphate Ag3PO4 (AP) barium oxide/silver BaO@Ag3PO4 (APB) photocatalyst. This was successfully synthesized chemical co-precipitation approach. physicochemical properties obtained samples were investigated scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance (UV–Vis/DRS), photoluminescence (PL) spectrophotometry. From XRD, average crystallite sizes AP APB are 39.1 46 nm, respectively, with homogeneous morphology detected by SEM. UV PL experiments showed that compound is active under visible light, an improvement in lifetimes electrons holes presence BaO Ag3PO4. as-synthesized photocatalyst sample remarkably high efficiency MB (20 ppm, 50 mL) around 94%, yield 7538 μmol/(h·g), after 120 min illumination, which greater than sample, about 88%. photodegradation attributed to electronic promotion effect particles. demonstrated increased photocatalytic performance effectively degrading dye no secondary pollutants when exposed light irradiation.
